Abstract

This work investigates the mineralization potentials of areas that are represented on Ilorin Sheet 223 from aeroradiomagnetic survey. Enhancement techniques were applied to radiomagnetic maps to understand the radiometric signature and distribution of potassium (K), uranium (U) and thorium (Th). Ratio maps of these elements were also generated. The results of the analyses showed that there is a relatively high magnetic anomaly in the northwest while the residual magnetic map shows a magnetic anomaly with a NE-SW trend. Maximum peak from the total horizontal derivative (THD) trends in NE-SW essentially. From the radiogenic survey, potassium concentration is higher in the north and northwestern part of the area while Th has its highest concentration in the eastern and southern parts. The concentration of uranium is essentially in the southern part of the area. The lithological units in the area aremigmatite, gneisses, schist, quartzites and granites, while rocks in the NW have been more altered hydrothermally. The lineaments in the area also trend in NE-SW with no variation. It was concluded that the western half of the area are more mineralized in industrial minerals such as marble deposits and should be explored. This part of the area is also inferred to be more mineralized in metallic deposits such as gold because of the density of fractures in this area.
